Does cinema influence the behavior of criminals?

Effect of Violent movies on criminals

It depends on the brain of the beholder. According to a laboratory experiment in psychology conducted by National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), it has been observed that violent movies increase aggression in the short run. The influence that cinema has on society is growing faster than ever before. The experiment report was prepared by investigating what is going on in the brain of beholder while watching violent movies. It is hypothesized that aggressive people process violent movies in a very different way as compared to people with non-aggressive traits.

During the experiment, it has been observed that some of the crimes that we hear about in the news are the consequence of the violence that we see in the movies. The message that an actor wants to get through the mind of audiences is one in which the beholder relate himself to him. It is mostly seen in young kids at the end of an action movie or superhero movie when they run around and claim to be Krrish, Tiger or any other movie character.

Another study of the same kind also shows the similar result. Dr. Nelly Alia-Klein, of the department of neuroscience, Icahn School of medicine at Mount Sinai, New York says “cinema really does make people more aggressive but it depends on the brain of the viewer”. This suggests that people with aggressive traits have a different brain function map than their non-aggressive peers.

So, it has been observed that cinema really influence the behavior of criminals.
